A Triangle of Trees

On August 4, 2021, I planted three Bald Cypress trees on the North/East corner of Merry Mount-one for each of our three granddaughters. The trees were a Father’s Day gift from Rett.

In some cultures, a triangle represents the three elements of our being that need to be balanced in order to reach enlightenment, such as: Past, Present, and Future. It also carries spiritual information regarding ascension to another realm.

A Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum) is a coniferous tree whose leaves in Spring and Summer are a light, bright green; are soft, feathery, and delicate; and remain on the tree almost four weeks longer than other deciduous trees.

In Autumn, the leaves are orange and remain on the tree almost four weeks longer than other deciduous trees. The tree itself provides a fantastically beautiful silhouette in Winter.

Past:

Previous owners of this property we call Merry Mount planted several types of trees that include: Maples, Spruce, River Birch, and my favorite, the Willow. Our neighbors Dave and Lynda Junk (RIP Lynda), and Gary and Roger Self have told us of several magnificent trees that were on the property when they were children that are now gone.

Present:

We enjoy and care for the trees listed above and have added several types ourselves: one Maple, two Oaks, a Ginko, three Chestnuts, three Redbuds, two Dogwoods, one flowering Crabapple, two Apples, two Cherries, two Peaches, one Plum, one Pussy Willow, and now three Bald Cypress trees.

Future:

I like to dream of a day when either our grandchildren and perhaps their children (or other owners) will look at the trees we have planted and marvel at them wondering what it must have been like to have lived in 2021.

In conclusion, the other night I stood within the triangle and dedicated the trees to Joy, Eva, and Asa and then expressed to the Universe a plea that whomever stands under these trees and looks up to the stars, that their spirit will ascend to mine and that blessings will be reigned down to them from above.

Sure on this shining night Of star made shadows round, Kindness must watch for me This side the ground. The late year lies down the north. All is healed, all is health. High summer holds the earth. Hearts all whole. Sure on this shining night I weep for wonder wand'ring far alone Of shadows on the stars.
