The proverb, “Time flies when you’re having fun”, describes how I feel about the past decade at Merry Mount. Words can’t begin to capture the countless moments of joy and jubilation that we feel as we reflect back.

Merry Mount was established on July 25, 2013. Many thanks to all who have shared in this journey: to the Porch Crew; to Lee and Robert for their love, brotherhood, and verse, especially during the pandemic; to Laurie for her hard work and gardening expertise; to Dave and Lynda, Keith and Jonie, Jill and Tony, and Gary for being the best neighbors anyone can have; and finally to our children and grandchildren and their spouses; to Jason and Julie; all who have supported us in this adventure and provided us so much love and laughter.

The week before we moved to 6090 Junk Road, I googled Merrymount and was led to The Maypole of Merrymount, a short story by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Early in the story, the following passage appears:

“May, or her mirthful spirit, dwelt all the year round at Merry Mount, sporting with the Summer months, and revelling with Autumn, and basking in the glow of Winter's fireside. Through a world of toil and care she flitted with a dreamlike smile, and came hither to find a home among the lightsome hearts of Merry Mount.”

Using Hawthorne's words as a preface to this blogpost, one realizes that each season offers beauty and opportunities, and it is through this lens that I offer moments captured in the snapshots that follow.
