Today I echo a shout out from my daughter Caroline.
Justice flows in our blood, for Caroline's paternal grandmother's maiden name was Justice:
Dorsey Lou Justice Woliver, RIP. It is with a great sense of Love and Pride that I share an excerpt from Caroline's letter below:
As we enter June, a month that, as Karen Hewitt reminds us, honors a rich legacy of social justice, we encourage our supporters to recognize and celebrate both Pride and Juneteenth – and their respective calls for resistance, joy, and liberation. In our pursuit of justice, YWCA Columbus calls upon our community to reckon with the United States’ history of codified oppression, which perpetuates inequity and marginalization to this day. It is imperative we collectively act to right the wrongs of our past and present, and embrace a future where everyone has the autonomy to live a life of freedom and authenticity.
Those in positions of power have long oppressed LGBTQ+ people, and today, lawmakers continue attempts to legislate trans, gender-expansive, and other queer people out of existence. We affirm the lives, value, and dignity of LGBTQ+ people and vehemently fight for the peace, safety, and freedom of all sitting at the intersections of gender, race, and sexual marginalization, this month and beyond!
Until Justice Just Is,
